What Are Great Lessons For Life That Anyone Can Learn In A Couple Of Seconds?
1) Amanda Ponzar
One of the major life lessons that you can learn in a few seconds is to be thankful by making an intentional choice to focus on gratitude. No matter how tough life gets, there is always, always something to be thankful for. When you wake up, remind yourself of three things you’re thankful for.
Be thankful for your transportation on the way to work or school. Before you eat a meal, pause and be thankful – whether it’s for the food or something else. Write 3 things you’re thankful for on a post-it note at your desk. Keep a formal gratitude journal and think of unique things to be thankful for each day. Take it a step further by thanking others for what they do for you – sending a text, note or email.

I have a quick flow chart (tool) to help people to stop being upset. It takes a few seconds to walk through. It’s life-changing and one of the best life lessons to learn.

Do you ever meet someone new and immediately forget their name? It can be extremely embarrassing to run into someone you recently met and realize you don’t know their name, despite meeting them just days or weeks before.
Here is a quick tip on how to remember a new acquaintance’s name. When this new person introduces himself or herself to you and says, Hi, I’m Sarah, repeat their name back to them. Whether as a question to confirm their name, or saying Nice to meet you, Sarah, be sure to repeat their name aloud.
Then, as the small talk and introductory conversation come to an end, be sure to repeat their name, for example, by saying nice meeting you Sarah, or take care, Sarah.
By repeating the person’s name twice aloud after meeting them, you are 78% more likely to recall their name next time you run into them. This is one of the most incredibly helpful life lessons for business purposes and in social settings.

One can learn active listening in just a couple of seconds as one of the most important life lessons that will benefit for the rest of one’s life. Active Listening involves listening through the words with full concentration, understanding, and respond in such a way by remembering what was being said.
It is the most powerful way of communication. Many therapists, counseling, training, and coaching use this technique because the person talking to us feels heard.
We live in a world where many of us don’t feel heard, seen, and respected. With active listening, people can learn this skill in just a few seconds and use it daily to transform their relationships with others and as a result of this improved communication skill, they too will feel the change in their lives. They will be able to live in a much happier life without feeling judged, or feeling in conflicts.

Being able to read people doesn’t come naturally to everyone but there are a few key ways to tell if someone is lying. If their eyes are darting back and forth, rapidly blinking, or closing their eyes for more than a second at a time, they’re probably lying.
If their smile doesn’t cause the skin around their eyes to get wrinkly, then it’s a fake smile and they’re probably being dishonest about something. If they’re shaking their head or touching their face a lot, that’s another sign that they are a liar. Knowing how to spot a lie is one of the very important life lessons.

One of the most useful skills and important life lessons that you could learn to change your life is the art of the pause when you speak. A good pause gives you an air of authority and adds weight to what you just said instead of diluting it with more words.
A good pause signifies confidence and it makes people hang on to your every word. it also can help to calm your nerves in giving you a chance to collect your thoughts.
If you want to become a powerful speaker, start with mastering the art of the pause.

I started a global branding and marketing firm 18 years ago and I think one of the single best life lessons that you can do in seconds is to smile. It signals you are kind and maybe a strong communicator who can share your ideas and attract supporters for whatever you want to do in life.
Having good people skills is key because you cannot do it all yourself so you have to be a magnet for others to achieve anything. With a little time, you can show a strong work ethic too and earn the respect of others helping you go farther.
Also having a strong moral compass builds trust and shows you will not compromise on ethics and values. Finally by showing a great sense of humor makes you fun to spend time with which is always a plus.

The number one piece of advice that I can offer, and perhaps one of the best life lessons is something that Winston Churchill once said. He said, Never, Never, never, never Give up.
I am a walking, talking, living, breathing proof that this works. I was born with Tourettes, OCD, and ADHD. I developed PTSD before I was sixteen because my father was a violent alcoholic, my mother was an addict, and my brother was both.
I was discharged from the military because, in their words, I could not adapt to military life. Between June 24, 1971 ( the date I was discharged ) and March 22, 1992, ( The date that I was officially diagnosed with Tourettes ) I was fired more than 200 times. That is NOT an exaggeration.
I have been arrested and jailed because a police officer thought I was on drugs. He did not realize that my ticcing was from having Tourettes. He had no idea what he was looking at.
Now, here is me taking my advice. I set five national sales records for RCA. I was named the number one rep in the country by General Power Corp. on Jan. 3, 1990. I started and ran my own business for twenty-seven years.
I wrote an op-ed column for The Dallas Morning News for a year. I am now 70 years old and have recently started a new business where I am now very heavily involved in the anti-bullying campaign. I was recently recognized as a Natl expert on the subject.
I am married to a woman who was a practicing ophthalmologist when we met. We have been married for 33 years. Our daughter has an MBA in Strategic Management.
Here is the kicker. I did not even complete the eleventh grade in high school. My mantra is Consistently Persistent. If I had not been living by this principle I would not have survived until I was 18. So it has served me quite well.
So yes, it works.

One of the best life lessons is to stand up straight to increase your confidence.
It may sound crazy, but a body language expert will tell you that standing up straight has an effect on your psychology.
When you slouch, you feel like a person who slouches. When you lift your shoulders and raise your chin, however, it will make you feel more confident and put-together.
It takes a while to get used to standing up straight, but you can start anytime. It will change the way that you feel about yourself, and the way that other people see you.

I recently learned one of the very important life lessons that has stuck with me for years. It’s quick, simple, and only takes moments to realize its importance.
It’s well-known that we are our own worst critics. Almost everyone faces this challenge: we expect more from ourselves and aren’t always confident or satisfied with the work we’ve done or the things we’ve accomplished.
This was true for me. My internal monologue was cruel. Every mistake was embarrassing, minor slip-ups would occupy my mind for days, my reflection was unbearable, and I ignored my accomplishments. People always told me “don’t be so hard on yourself,” but I didn’t know what that meant.
It wasn’t until someone gave me this life-changing advice that anyone can learn:* treat yourself like you’d treat your best friend.* It’s simple, it’s straightforward, and it’s easy to understand. It only takes moments to process and can revolutionize your self-esteem.
I realized that the things I was saying in my head I would never say to someone I cared about. If my best friend made the same mistakes I did, I’d tell her that she’s just doing her best and figuring it out as she goes along. Why didn’t I extend that same empathy and support to myself?
If you’re harshly critical of yourself, it can take practice to treat yourself like you would your best friend. But once it clicks, you’re kinder and more forgiving towards yourself, allowing you to live a more peaceful life.

Effective communication is a critical skill and one of the pertinent life lessons that can be learned in a few seconds if a person merely stops to become self-aware of their thoughts.
Effective communication requires a person to express their needs and desires while understanding and relating to others’ needs and desires.
As such, effective communication merely requires becoming more self-aware long enough to listen to one’s thoughts and expressing themselves clearly.

Open up a new tab, especially on firefox, on your computer by clicking the wheel on your mouse. Many folks don’t know about this as one of the very important life lessons. And that when added up would save you hours or if you’re a computer addict – days in your lifetime.

Press CTRL+c to copy and CTRL+v to paste on a keyboard. If you don’t learn any other shortcuts, learn these as one of the very important life lessons, and use them.
To multiply by nine, hold both hands open in front of you, and starting from the left, bend the finger of the other multiplier. For example in 9×6, bend your sixth finger from the left. The number of fingers to the left of the bent finger represent the tens (in this equation, five fingers are on the left, so 50) and the fingers to the right of the bent finger represent the ones (in this case, four) giving you the answer “54.”
14) Valerie Bowden
One of the very important life lessons that I learned is how to be focused, calm, and happier with a trick I learned from the book, The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle. Instead of resisting distraction or getting carried away with anxious thoughts, I just observe them.
For example, if I start worrying about something I can’t control, I’ll think, *Hmm… that’s interesting that this thought keeps popping up in my head.* For some reason, this helps the thought leave just as quickly as it came.
Another tip in the book is to think,* I wonder what my next thought will be…* This tends to quiet my brain for several minutes. Combined, these techniques have improved my life. I can handle irritating people better. I’m able to fall asleep faster because I’m not up worrying. And I stay present in the moment, which leads to more joy, concentration, and gratitude.
15) Leia Kalani
One of the very important life lessons is to begin everything with Why?* To achieve a healthy and mindful lifestyle, ask yourself *why?* Why am I eating so much junk food when I know that it’s so bad for my health?
Why am I procrastinating doing the report that’s due tomorrow?
Why do I allow certain people to get under my skin?
Whatever you’re doing ask yourself why. This gives you more purpose and meaning in everything you do. If you can’t answer the why question, then maybe it’s not worth your time.

One of the great skills and life lessons that I find quite useful that can be learned quickly is the art of proper knot tying.
Tying secure and proper knots can ensure that your equipment stays safe when diving or transporting, but more universally, tying proper knots that can’t be easily pulled or undone can help prevent theft of personal items when traveling, especially at airports.
Proper knot tying is essential to all mariners and sailors, who have been using it for centuries to secure rigging, cargo, and lines. Easy to learn, but with a lifetime of applications.

A) Whistle For It: Learning to whistle can help you can gain people’s attention from much further away than you can with your voice, plus it is one of the life lessons that looks way cooler! Or sounds!
B) Click Your Fingers: It might seem simple but doing this life lesson opens up a few possibilities. You can click to a beat when singing or dancing, or even quickly remember things, as clicking your fingers while thinking will draw out the thought/memory quicker.

Here is a couple of life lessons that one could remember in seconds:
A) Remembering someone’s name you’ve just met
B) Smiling
C) Listening with interest
D) Not looking at your phone all the time

Learn how to change a tire: As long as you have a spare tire, you can learn how to change a tire in less than ten minutes. This is one of the life lessons that is a lot easier than you think.
Even if you don’t drive, this skill may come in handy at some point. After all, you could be a passenger in a car that gets a flat tire one day, and knowing how to change a tire could get you back on the road.

I am a psychotherapist licensed in Maryland and Professional Life Coach with a Masters in Counseling. Everyone can benefit from learning one of the important life lessons of how to calm an anxious mind through this simple grounding technique. It’s called the 5 Senses Meditation.
This meditation can be taught to anyone, regardless of age or mental abilities, and be used everywhere, all the time! I love teaching this to clients because it’s so simple and effective. The important thing to remember is that meditation calms the brain and therefore resets the brain’s ‘flight or fight’ response. Repeated practice of such a meditation allows the mind easier access to its calmer energy.
*5 Senses Meditation:*
Simply engage each of your 5 senses one at a time. You can spend as a long as you like at each sense but the key is to stay focused one sensation at a time. Sit quietly and take a few long, deep, calming breaths.
Start by noticing what you can feel (i.e. the softness of your sweater on your back, your hair resting on your shoulder, a breeze across your face). Next, notice what you can taste (i.e. the last sip of coffee, garlic from dinner on your tongue, your minty toothpaste). Next notice what you can smell (i.e. your co-workers perfume, the lingering scent of the cleaning products used in your office last night; freshly brewed coffee).
Now take time to look around, engage your vision (i.e. observe the brightly colored paintings on the walls or the pattern and texture of your shirt). Lastly, engage your hearing (i.e. is their background music, honking horns, or fingers tapping on a keyboard).
You can do this at work between meetings or even in a meeting if you are feeling overwhelmed. If you would like to extend the meditation, do this outside or a busy coffee shop where your senses can be stimulated in many different ways.
21) Plamen Beshkov
Africa taught me this very important life lesson:
Last year I visited Tanzania. I learned a lot from the locals, especially one that stuck with me, which is a particularly useful way to filter water.
Lack of clean, freshwater is a common problem in Africa, and anyone could find themselves in an emergency with no clean water readily available.
Here is how Tanzanians solve this problem:
*Use a piece of cloth to filter dirty water.*
Fill one container with water, no matter how murky it is. Cut a strip of clean cloth, your t-shirt for example. Dip one end of the cloth in the murky water and put the other end into an empty container where you want to gather the filtered water. Keep the container with dirty water at a higher level than the empty one.
The dirty water will wick along the t-shirt, collecting the dirt, and after some time you will see clear water dripping into the empty container. Remember to boil the water before you drink it.

Here are 3 important life lessons one can learn in seconds that will be useful for the rest of one’s life.
A) Opening a bottle without a bottle opener. A bottle can be opened with another bottle, or an edge of something hard, like a table. This is one of the simple life lessons one can learn in seconds that will come in handy every time you’ll need to open a bottle. You just need to hold the battle at the right angle and exert just the right amount of force.
B) Building a fire. This is a thing that is commonly done during science classes, but this is a serious skill or life lesson that can be useful in life and death situations, especially when there is a shortage of fire starters. All you need are nice pieces of wood and kindlings, plus a spinning or rubbing motion and you’re all set.
C) First Aid. Learning first aid isn’t as easy as it may sound, but it can be learned and applied in seconds. There are a lot of things that can happen in the first few seconds of an injury, and so this is an important life lesson or skill to have. Also, you do not need to be an expert in medicine to be able to do it as statistics indicate that 79.9% of first aid providers are not medically-trained.
23) Daniel Ray
One of the very important life lessons that you can learn in a couple of seconds is how to correctly mow a lawn:
A) Rule No. 1 is to never cut off more than one-third of the grass in any one cutting. Let it grow too long between cuttings and you stress the grass.
B) Rule No. 2 is to never cut it too short. Scalping can kill the grass.
C) And Rule No. 3 is to alternate the directions in which you mow. Running the mower in the same direction all the time makes the grass lean over, and gives an uneven mow.
24) Claire Barber
An important life lesson that takes only seconds to learn with benefits to last a lifetime is deep breathing exercises. Learning a couple of simple techniques can help a person feel centered, focused and calm.
So in the future, whenever they feel stressed, frazzled and overwhelmed, they can go back to these breathing techniques to feel better quickly.
25) Suzanne Evans
The world would be a better place if everyone would learn to celebrate simple wins, as one of the very important life lessons. Think about it, when was the last time you celebrated a personal win?
We are all accomplishing great things every day, but do not give ourselves the recognition we deserve. When you celebrate wins you are creating a buzz for success for yourself and those around you!
26) John Linden
Stop cleaning your blender by hand. Instead, fill it with soapy water, put the cover on, and run it. If there’s gunk stuck to the inside, add some baking soda to the mix.
I spent years trying to clean my blender with a sponge, and I usually wound up with nasty cuts from the blades. At certain points, I found it so difficult to clean my blender that I didn’t even want to use it anymore!
This cleaning technique and an important life lesson will save you a lot of time.
27) Shaan Patel
One of the important life lessons and a tip that I always find helpful and that can be learned in seconds is taking the necessary time to meditate. Despite sounding too simple, pausing to breathe is helpful and centering.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed by what’s going on, stop what you’re doing, close your eyes, breathe in deep to fill your diaphragm, and slowly exhale. Focus on the inhale and exhale, and ignore everything else.
This simple activity is the first step to meditation. It’s not about being “deep” but being mindful of the moment you’re in, and slowing your thoughts down to be in it. When it feels like there’s too much happening around you, focused breathing will effectively center you.
28) Debra Benton
Learn the life lessons to stop resting bi**h face (or male version, resting fart face) and have a visage with a slight smile that you maintain whether mad, glad, sad, scared. It’s your game face to deal with all situations in life. It can morph into a big smile but it must never go into a grimace, smirk, sour, dour, frown.
29) Robert Barrows
Here are two great life lessons we learned in the first few minutes of my first Driver’s Ed class in high school:
1) Two things can’t be in the same place at the same time…
2)And what you can’t see, can hurt you
30) Allen Klein
One of the most useful life lessons is that no one or nothing can ruin your day. You are responsible for how you react to everything—yes everything—in your life. As I’ve stated in one of my books, “Your attitude is the crayons that color your world.”
31) Milana Perepyolkina
Essential oils have been used for thousands of years to improve wellbeing. A scent of an essential oil reaches the brain within seconds and activates the hypothalamus, the hormonal control center.
You can use essential oils to build your mental strength. Just put a couple of drops of rosemary essential oil behind your ears and improve your concentration. You can use essential oils to fall asleep faster by putting a couple of drops of lavender essential oil behind your ears, and it will help you relax.
32) Dr. Clinton Moore
My main areas of expertise are anxiety, relationships, and perfectionism.
One of the great life lessons or skills that anyone can pick up in just a minute and use daily for the rest of their life is mindfulness. People often think of mindfulness as requiring long stretches of meditation, but it’s actually about learning to notice the present rather than sitting cross-legged and saying “Om”.
Getting started on mindfulness is as easy as just walking from one side of the room to the other, but as you do so try to keep all the attention on the sole of your foot. If you managed to keep your attention there for just a second you will have taken your first step towards a more mindfulness life. Of course, you can build on these life skills as much as you want, but just starting your mindfulness journey with some attention training will help your mood and concentration.
33) Kevin Rodrigues
I’m an entrepreneur that has a content marketing business for more than two years.
One of the best life lessons you can learn in a couple of seconds and that will be useful for your entire life is to take notes. The moment you get a thought in your head write it down. You can use an online app on your phone or use the traditional pen and paper. At the end of the day, you can go through the notes and introspect on them.
This method of taking notes immediately has helped me a lot in business as well as personal life. I can take a look at the notes and create tasks that I need to take care of. I prioritize the tasks and work on the most important ones that can have a major impact on my life.
34) Winston Nguyen
How people tend to over-rely on the first piece of information they receive.
This can be used in:
– Negotiations – whoever sets the opening offer wins
– Business proposals – carefully consider what to place at the beginning of a proposal. I focus on the client’s goals.
– Client calls – always start the call off with a strong, positive topic.
Knowing these principles and life lessons will help in many areas of life.
35) Damian Birkel
These are the rules to live by that I learned from my best boss ever.
RULES FOR SUCCESS IN LIFE:
– Attitude
– Results
– No Excuses
– What-Ever-It-Takes
– Life’s not an exact science
By following these rules and life lessons, I have been very fortunate and have a wonderful life.
36) Jason Smitka
Navy SEALs use a simple meditation technique known as box breathing to sharpen their focus and remain calm in the midst of some of the most intense situations. This life lesson is achieved by breathing in deep while counting slowly to four in your head. At the top of the inhale you then hold your breath and count silently to four again.
Next, exhale and repeat the four counts. Finally, at the bottom of the exhale you hold your breath and count to four again. From there you simply repeat as needed, breathing “in a box” until you feel completely calm and relaxed.
37) Max Dirnfeld
People are always looking for ways to save on ink and toner. So, here’s a simple tip (it only takes a second to learn this life lesson):
Switch from black type to gray on your printouts. You’ll save a bundle!*
38) Suja Johnkutty, MD
Here is my suggestion as a physician entrepreneur helping workaholics achieve stress relief. One of the best life lessons anyone can learn is to not make assumptions. It has freed me from a lot of grief about many situations.
39) Jeremy Scott Foster
Everyone pours their carton juice with the nozzle side on the bottom side of the carton. This causes an air bubble to form which results in the ‘glugging’ effect, which can cause spillages.
Learning the life lesson of simply pouring with the nozzle on the top side will allow air to flow into the nozzle, which will result in a smoother, glug free and most importantly spill-free zone.
40) Peter Koch
Keyboard shortcuts: It’s amazing how much more efficient and faster you can be when you know keyboard shortcuts.
There are still people today that don’t know about the simple life lessons of using keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl A / Ctrl C / Ctrl V / Ctrl T / Ctrl W / Ctrl F. These shortcuts revolutionized my life.
