Self Driving Vehicles Do Have Major Limitations. They Cannot Drive On Roads That Are Not Well Paved And 3-D Mapped. Well, MIT To The Rescue: They Have Developed A System Called MapLite, Which Could Allow Autonomous Vehicles Drive, Using Adapting Sensors And GPS, On Unpaved/UnMapped 3-D Roads. Looking Forward To It!
MIT Builds a Self-Driving Car for Unmapped Country Roads – ExtremeTechLidar and smart software tell where the unmarked road edge ends and the ditch begins. So far, Team MIT can see and navigate a never-before-traveled road to a distance 100 feet. Mountain roads remain a challenge.
