Democracy´s roots are found in ancient Greece, specifically the city-state of Athens. Athenian democracy revolutionized politics and introduced to the world a concept of power that was untainted by wealth, privilege, and corruption. Even though the Athenian ideal of democracy did not survive, it served as the basis of every form of modern representative democracy to date.
